I thought this book sounded interesting so I bought it when Borders was closing. It was shuffled around the shelves as I got new books and rearranged them and everything. It was sort of forgotten about. I have just discovered that there is a perk to having forgotten about it for so long. That perk is this: I DON'T HAVE TO WAIT AS LONG FOR INSURGENT! May is way too far away as it is.

During my reread of the Alanna books I shared my favorite of the four covers (In The Hand of the Goddess). For The Immortals, my favorite of the covers is Emperor Mage. It has a certain elegance and life to it that isn't really matched in the others, though Wild Magic is probably my second favorite and comes closeish.

I'd heard a great deal about Ally Condie's Matched. Having picked it up a number of times and scanned over the description I wasn't sure it was for me. Then I kept hearing people talk about it and I decided to give it a shot. For a while it was sentenced to be one of those books that I bought and forgot about as I bought other ones. But then Crossed was released and there was a certain amount of hype again so I added it to the reading list.

Totally Epic Adventures in Short Story Writing

So, I promised a blog post about short stories. So here you go with the nonsensical ranting.

I don't write short stories very often. When I say "very often" I mean almost ever. As of late that has changed. I am hoping to apply for the Clarion workshop (stories are currently in the hands of my Beta readers. Not at all nervous) and that required two short stories. Generally speaking, I have nothing against short stories. On the contrary, I admire those who can create a well-crafted short story and enjoy reading them.

But I can't write a short story to save me damn life. (Well, couldn't, hopefully I've gotten better).

Oh Wolf Speaker, you are sadly still my least favorite, so far at least. Originally I thought that I might have disliked it for much the same reason that I initially disliked The Woman Who Rides Like A Man. Daine spends much of the novel cut off from the other characters. This time around I think that I was right.

I had intended to pace myself while reading Catching Fire. Mostly because I heard that as soon as I finished I would feel an undivided need for Mockingjay. This was a ridiculous plan and I abandoned it without a second thought.

Oh dear gods it took me long enough to read this one. I was busy sulking.

First, I haven't read much Dickens. I did read A Christmas Carol in sixth grade so that was quite a while ago and then read Hard Times for my Victorian Literature class in college. That was the first time I felt really exposed to Mr. Dickens (there was actually an ongoing joke about how I was having an affair with him because we kept sleeping together). Despite my rather unfortunate tendency to pass out while reading it I really liked the book. I'd been meaning to read more Dickens but hadn't gotten to it yet.

The Massively Epic Sulking Fit

Hullo everyone. It's been a while. I promise that I am, in fact reading A Tale of Two Cities.  Even if I just started it a day or so ago. *guilty look*

I wanted to take a minute to A. Let you know that I haven't died, forgotten about the list or the blog, or run off and joined Hermits United with David Tennant. And B. discuss the sulking fit I've been having.
